7 Steps To Decorate Your Bathroom On A Budget

7 Steps to Decorate Your Bathroom on a Budget

If you bathroom Decor is looking past its best and you need a designer makeover but you don't have a designer budget to match then try these tips to get your bathroom looking like a million dollars!

1. Declutter

We all tend to accumulate too much clutter in our bathrooms. Too many bottles of half-finished beauty products makes the bathroom look a mess and sometimes there are too many accessories too. Remove everything from your bathroom that is not permanently fixed to the wall or floor. Sometimes you will be amazed at how your bathroom seems to grow in size when you do this. Later on we'll look at what can go back!

2. Clean

Buy some super-effective cleaning products, put on your rubber gloves and apply some elbow grease to get your bathroom sparkling clean. If necessary, renew the silicone sealant around the bath and shower area and use bleach and a toothbrush to clean old tile cement or grouting.

With the clutter gone and everything looking pristine it will feel like a new room and you have spent very little so far! If you are not replacing them, get your curtains or blinds, shower curtain and bath rugs clean too - follow the care instructions for each item.

3. Color Scheme

Decide on a color scheme based on the items you are keeping. If you're not sure, browse through some bathroom sites online for ideas which are in keeping with your bathroom.

If buying a new shower curtain, you can usually get one for very little cash. Select one which will go with the color scheme you have in mind or use a great shower curtain as a starting point for your color scheme.

If you need a new window treatment, an inexpensive plain roller blind in a coordinating color is a simple and effective way of covering your window.

4. Paint

If your walls need freshening up, paint them. It doesn't cost much for a can of paint. If your tiles are looking old-fashioned and tired you can paint them too with special tile paint. Much cheaper than replacing them though the effect won't be quite as good as new tiles.

5. Pictures

Add a picture or two to the walls. Don't use anything too precious as the artwork may be affected by the steamy atmosphere of the bathroom. You can even use pictures from a magazine or cheap mini posters and frame them with inexpensive perspex clip frames.

6. Towels

Treat yourself to some new soft fluffy towels from a discount store in a coordinating color and put them on display in an inexpensive basket or other container.

7. Accessories

Decide which of the items you removed at the decluttering stage you would like to return to your bathroom.

At this point you may decide your bathroom looks much better without them!

If you need the products in the bathroom but don't like the clutter look for a cheap storage container which coordinates with your bathroom or paint an old cupboard from a junk shop (if you have the space).

If you still have anything left in your budget choose a coordinated bathroom set to replace the "hotch potch" of items you had before. Then a couple of plants, a soothing aromatherapy candle and you are done!
