In QuickBooks, the primary admin has the highest permission level to modify settings and grant user access. However, sometimes you may need to transfer or change to the primary admin. Important Points:

There are two types of primary admin: company primary admin and Intuit Account primary admin.

Before transferring your primary admin and managing company or Intuit Account users, you must note these points.

  • Each company or Intuit Account is limited to a single primary admin.
  • The primary admin for the Intuit Account may differ from the company's primary admin.
  • Only the Primary Admin can adjust the changes for the admin role, so you must log in as the primary admin.
  • If the Primary Admin is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop or unable to make the change, you can request assistance from the QuickBooks account protection team.

Adjust the Primary Company Admin from QuickBooks Desktop

  • Go to Company, then select My Company.
  • Click on Manage Your Account.
  • Sign in with your Intuit Account credentials. These should be different from the credentials you use to access your company file.
  • Scroll down to the Primary Contact section and click Change.
  • Choose the new primary contact from the list of contacts associated with the account.
  • Note: If the user is not listed, then the admin needs to invite/add the user. The user must accept the invite to become the primary contact.
  • Click Save and Close.

Change the Primary Company Admin from A Web Browser

  • Open a browser.
  • Sign in to your Intuit Account (CAMPs).
  • Scroll down to the Primary Contact section and click Change.
  • Choose the new primary contact from the list available on the account.
    • Note: If the user is not listed, the current admin needs to invite or add the user. The user must accept the invite to become the primary contact.

  • Click Save and Close.

Change the Primary Intuit Account Admin from QBDT

  • Go to Company.
  • Select Users.
  • Then, choose Intuit Account User Management.
  • Find the secondary admin you want to make the primary admin.
  • Click Edit.
  • Select Change Primary Admin. If the user isn't listed, you will need to add them to the account.
  • Enter the verification code.
  • This will be sent to the admin's phone number.
  • An admin transfer email will be sent to both the current primary admin and the secondary admin.
  • Once the secondary admin accepts the transfer, he will become the primary admin.
  • After that, the original primary admin will become the secondary admin.
  • Note: Only secondary admins can be assigned the primary admin role, and there can only be one primary admin at a time.
