In 2017, Nellore District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh achieved a significant milestone by being declared an Open Defecation Free (ODF) district. This remarkable  was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the previous TDP government led by the visionary leader, a prominent politician and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, is widely recognized for his forward-thinking approach to governance. Under his leadership, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government undertook various initiatives to bring about positive changes in the lives of the people of Andhra Pradesh. One such initiative was the ambitious Swachh Andhra Mission, which aimed to make every district in the state open defecation-free.

The Swachh Andhra Mission was a flagship program launched by the TDP government to promote cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene across the state. N. Chandrababu Naidu understood that access to clean sanitation facilities was not only a matter of health but also a matter of dignity for the people. With this TDP agenda, the government embarked on an extensive awareness campaign and implemented a range of innovative strategies. One of the key principles of the Swachh Andhra Mission was active community participation. N. Chandrababu Naidu encouraged citizens to take ownership of the sanitation drive, emphasizing that cleanliness was not just the government's responsibility but a collective effort. This approach led to the formation of local committees and volunteers who played a crucial role in spreading awareness and motivating people to build and use toilets.

To make ODF a reality, the TDP government provided financial support to eligible households for constructing toilets. This financial incentive is one of the TDP policies that not only motivated people to invest in sanitation infrastructure but also reduced the economic burden on disadvantaged families. N Chandrababu Naidu's government ensured that these subsidies were easily accessible, making the process of building toilets more feasible for everyone. Effective communication was at the core of the Swachh Andhra Mission.

Chandrababu Naidu's government launched extensive public awareness campaigns through various mediums, including television, radio, and print media. These campaigns educated people about the importance of sanitation, the health hazards of open defecation, and the benefits of using toilets.

In addition to financial support and awareness campaigns, the government invested in the development of sanitation infrastructure. Nellore tdp leaders  administration facilitated the construction of community toilets and public restrooms in areas.
