Different Types of Animals

Wild Animals

a) Wild animals are those that live in their natural habitat without any human control.
b) They live freely in areas such as deserts, forests, mountains, grasslands and oceans.
c) Examples of wild animals include lions, zebras, eagles, snakes, whales and many more

Domestic Animals

a) Domestic animals are those that have been bred and tamed by humans.
b) They live in close association with humans.
c) Some domestic animals are trained for specific tasks such as horses for transportation.
d) Some domestic animals are raised for their goods such as pigs for their meat, cows for milk, chickens for eggs and sheep for wool.

Pet Animals

a) Pet animals are a specific category of domestic animals that live with humans in their homes.
b) They are kept and cared mainly for companionship and affection to their owners.
c) Pet owners provide food, care and shelter to their pets.
d) Dogs, cats, fish, birds, rabbits and hamsters are a few common pet animals.

Water Animals
a) Water animals are those that live mainly in water sources such as rivers, lakes and oceans.
b) They are also known as aquatic animals.
c) Some examples of water animals are fish, sharks, whales, octopuses and turtles.

Land Animals

a) As the name suggests, land animals are those that live mainly on land such as forests, mountains, deserts, and grassland.
b) They are also called terrestrial animals.
c) Examples of land animals include lions, elephants, bears, wolves, giraffes, deer and kangaroos.

Amphibians

a) Amphibians are animals that can live both in water and on land.
b) They are unique because they can breathe through their skin.
c) They often stay near bodies of water such as ponds, lakes and rivers.
d) Amphibians include animals such as frogs, toads and salamanders.

Birds
a) Birds are living beings that have feathers and wings.
b) Birds can usually fly but a few cannot. These are called flightless birds.
c) Birds build nests to live and lay eggs.
d) Eagles, pigeons, sparrows and crows are common birds that can fly.
e) Penguins and ostriches are flightless birds.

Mammals

a) Mammals are those animals that give birth to young ones.
b) Humans are part of the mammal group.
c) Mammals have hair on their bodies and they produce milk to feed their babies.
d) Some mammals live on land like humans, bears and dogs. Some like dolphins and whales live in the water. Others like bats can fly.
