Indian Cuisine is usually loved by all and when it comes to relishing non-vegetarian food, nothing can beat the Indian aroma and taste. Butter chicken is the best-known Indian non-veg dish that is made with a rich sauce made with cream, tomatoes, and numerous seasonings. The history and origin date back to the pre-partition times from 1930 to 1935 when there was a sweet shop called Mukhey da Dhaba owned by the gentleman Mokha Singh. Kundal Lal Gujral worked there and his grandson named Monish Gujral also do, where he helped invent the famous Tandoori Chicken that we all love today.

The history behind this phenomenal dish revolves around Mr. Kundan Lal Gujral, a renowned chef from Calcutta, India. One day he found himself short on butter and put tomato puree into the classic chicken curry recipe. But he was not aware of the thing that the recipe would turn out to be very delicious and would be well-liked by everyone.

Then the recipe got well-famed in the restaurants when Mokha Singh Lamba opened his restaurant in Peshawar. But before this dish became the cream of the crop, Tandoori Chicken had already got established as a mouth-watering Indian delicacy. Almost all countries adopted it with their widespread flavor and Canadians pair this particular dish with tacos and roti. And Indians pair the dish with naan bread. This recipe then became popular with the name Butter Chicken and Murgh Malai.

Then at that point in time, an astute businessman named KL Gujral, thought that the Tandoori Chicken hanging on the seekhs above the tandoor all day will make the chicken try if not sold. Then he came up with the gorgeous idea of creating a basic gravy with tomatoes, spices, and buttercream to make the dish palatable again. So, at that point in time, the Butter Chicken recipe came into being.
