The Central government has been working on the ambitious Vande Bharat Express train project since 2019. It would improve the country's convenience and railway infrastructure. Reduced journey times and affordable facilities similar to those found on aeroplanes are the goals of these semi-high-speed trains. Here is a peek at the project, which has a tight schedule to complete 75 Vande Bharat Express trains by Independence Day this year.

Vande Bharat Express: What is it?

The Vande Bharat Express is a semi-high-speed rail project that will make its debut in 2019 on the New Delhi-Varanasi route. These trains are operated and maintained by the Indian Railways and are also known as Train 18. The Vande Bharat Express trains are equipped with the highly developed domestic "Kavach" Technology, or Train Collision Avoidance System. (TCAS).

These trains have reclining seats like on airlines, an entertainment system, and automatic doors, to mention a few luxuries. Although they are now moving at a pace of 160 km per hour, they have a top speed of 180 km per hour. Additionally, the train's coaches are individually fitted with fire detection and communication systems.

By the time India celebrates its 75th anniversary of independence in August 2023, the Central government hopes to have 75 Vande Bharat Express trains running. It is envisaged that the aim may be met by the government routinely releasing these trains.

New Delhi-Bhopal Vande Bharat Express

Between the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi and the Rani Kamlapati Railway Station in Bhopal, the Bhopal-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express will run. The train will halt three times at Veerangana Laxmibai Jhansi, Gwalior, and Agra railway stations as it travels around 700 miles in seven hours and thirty minutes. With the exception of Saturdays, the train will run every day.

The price will change a little depending on the route. The cost of the tickets, which include the optional food fees of Rs 379 and Rs 434, for the Bhopal to New Delhi route is Rs 1,735 for Chair Car and Rs 3,185 for Executive Class.

The cost of tickets for the New Delhi to Bhopal route, however, will be Rs 1,665 for Chair Car and Rs 3,120 for Executive Class, both of which include the respective optional food fees of Rs 308 and Rs 369.

Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express

The Chennai to Coimbatore or Chennai-Kovai Vande Bharat Express train and a tri-weekly express on the Tambaram-Sengottai line in Chennai are both set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2023. The cost of completing the railway projects is Rs 294 crore. After the Chennai Central-Mysore Vande Bharat Express, this would be the second Vande Bharat Express train from Chennai.

Current routes for Vande Bharat Express

There are 11 Vande Bharat Express train routes in India, namely New Delhi-Varanasi, New Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Gandhi Nagar Capital-Mumbai Central, Amb Andaura-New Delhi, Chennai Central-Mysore, Bilaspur-Nagpur, New Jalpaiguri-Howrah, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Mumbai)-Solapur, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Mumbai)-Shirdi, Bhopal-New Delhi.

Routes for the new Vande Bharat Express

On April 8, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to open the Chennai-Coimbatore (Kovai) Vande Bharat Express train and a tri-weekly express on the Tambaram-Sengottai line. In addition, a new Vande Bharat Express train that can travel the 250 kilometres between Delhi, Jaipur, and Ajmer in under three hours is set to launch on that route. In April 2023, this train is anticipated to be signalled off. However, according to the railway minister, technical adjustments are necessary before the Vande Bharat Express train can start travelling along this route.

Effects on real estate

The new train would improve accessibility to Tamil Nadu's major urban and commercial hubs. Two significant marketplaces for industrial, commercial, and residential real estate are found in Chennai and Coimbatore. The Surat-Chennai Expressway and the Chennai-Salem Expressway are two more recent additions to the State's transport network, which also includes the Vande Bharat Express railway. The Coimbatore Metro project is also underway, however the Chennai Metro is currently up and running.

All of these initiatives to improve connectivity in and around Tamil Nadu are anticipated to have a positive impact on the area's real estate industry. The State may anticipate an increase in price and a high YoY growth in many pockets, notably the residential ones near Chennai and Coimbatore, even though the price of real estate may not go north immediately. Due to enhanced and varied forms of communication, the area may also develop into a hub for investments.
